Car Peugeot 405 has set of versions and represents the rich offer of the manufacturer. Is model concerning original though the set of well-known decisions is borrowed from group PSA cars (Peugeot – Сitroen). For satisfaction of the new requirements connected with equipment of made versions of model 405 by engines of average capacity, firm Peugeot has been compelled to realise consistently the policy which founder was Jean-Paul Paraire, and the continuer – Jacques Calvet. This policy was based on use of constructive decisions of group PSA and offer expansion according to demand. According to this concept, versions which should be equipped by less powerful engines, were equipped with the engine of family TU of 1,4 sm3 and a transmission of type МА (before used in cars Citroen AX) whereas other versions were equipped with engines of family XU and transmissions of type ВЕ which some versions with success are used in cars Peugeot 305 (series 2), and also Citroen BX.
Petrol engines are located before a forward axis of the car and inclined back on 30 °.
In January, 1988 in scale of cars Peugeot 405 there were four new versions with a body the Sedan, including versions GLD and GRD, equipped very successful engine in volume of 1905 sm3 capacity 51kW (70л.с.). This engine has been earlier tested in model 305, and also in Сitroen BX. Peugeot 405, equipped with this engine, 165 km/h accelerate momentum. Versions GLD and GRD differ among themselves only with some features of equipment, namely the sizes of tyres. Version GRD, besides, can be equipped by system of a steering with the amplifier.
Among the above-stated four models there were also versions GRD Turbo and SRD Turbo which have been equipped by engine XUD 7TE in volume 1769 sm3 (an event from the above described engine). Thanking турбокомпрессору (Garrett T2 or ККК type К14) with an air radiator this engine develops capacity 66 kW (90 h.p.). Peugeot 405 with such engine 180 km/h can accelerate momentum. Transmissions for both types of engines differ with switching of speeds.
In May, 1988 there were versions of car Peugeot 405 with a body комби. It were versions GLD, GRD, GRD Turbo and SRD Turbo. From the point of view of the applied decisions these versions are similar to the predecessors with a body the Sedan.
In a car suspension bracket the checked up constructive decisions are used. A forward suspension bracket – type pseudo-McPherson with the powerful bottom lever (the error of model 309 GT is not repeated). Elements of a forward suspension bracket are connected to a cross-beam made of steel welded sheets. The cross-beam is an element to which the levers shaped from a steel (from each party), the bearing of the stabilizer and the steering mechanism (together with rigid intermediate plates fasten).
Steering transfer of system without the hydraulic booster has приводную a gear wheel with 6 teeths and is characterised by transfer number 23,9. Steering transfer of system with the hydraulic booster has приводную a gear wheel with 8 teeths, and its transfer number makes 17,8.
Original decisions are applied to simplification of service of car Peugeot 405 some, namely:
– Connection between a pipe of system of release of the fulfilled gases and the muffler is "двухконусным" that considerably facilitates replacement of details;
– Removal and coupling installation are possible without preliminary removal of the engine;
– In basic plates of springs of columns of a suspension bracket special apertures for the cables holding springs in the compressed condition that allows to remove shock-absorbers easily are executed;
– Bearings of back wheels are replaced without adjustment;
– In brake drums special apertures through which it is possible to define easily degree of deterioration brake колодок are applied, without removing completely knot.
All versions have received the new transmission ВЕ3 occurring from box ВЕ1. This transmission is characterised by the new scheme of a gear change – the reverse gear is opposite to the fifth transfer.
In version SRDT adjustment of a pillow of an armchair of the driver has been replaced with adjustment of height of all armchair. Versions with a body комби have received a special casing for luggage.
In versions GRDT, SRD and SRDT remote control by correction of installation of headlights is applied.
All models are equipped by the right rear-view mirror and a new steering wheel.
In version GLD the upholstery of doors executed from a fabric, instead of earlier applied upholstery – leatherette is used. Also equipment for radio equipment installation is used.
In versions GRD and GRDT with a body комби there were special casings for luggage.
In version SRDT are applied lifting of the right glass with block management and электрически an operated right mirror.
New version SRD which was characterised by application of mechanical knots from version GRD and furnish of version SRDT is entered.
In April new version STDT which has received equipment of version SRDT is entered, namely: antiblocking system of brakes, the disks executed from an easy alloy, remote control by blocking of doors, a leather upholstery, heating of forward seats with electric management, nut facing on doors and on the panel of devices, and also электрически lifted back glasses.
In October, 1991 a special series under the name "Style", characterised by application of the metallized covering a metallic, warmed mirrors, тонированных glasses, the central blocking of doors and system of a steering with the hydraulic booster has started to be issued.
In March, 1992 two special series have gone on sale:
– Version GLX based on version GLD and equipped with a covering from a special fabric and "sports" caps of wheels;
– Version GRX based on versions GRD and GRDT and equipped in addition велюровой with an upholstery, the central blocking of doors, "sports" caps of wheels and forward left sitting with adjustment on height.
Cars Peugeot 405 have been modernised. The most essential updatings were:
– A new cover of a luggage carrier with the lowered threshold for luggage placing;
– A new kind of salon;
– The engine with a turbo-supercharging of 1905 sm3 instead of the engine with a turbo-supercharging of 1769 sm3.
